TU recognized for holistic, inclusive approach to health, student success
Towson University receives Insight Into Academia Magazine’s 2025 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award
Today, Towson University received the 2025 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award from Insight Into Academia magazine. The Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award is a measure of an institution’s individual programs and initiatives that significantly advance the core values of inclusive excellence and belonging through programs, initiatives and many other campus priorities deserving of this national recognition.
“T recognition affirms our deep commitment to fostering a campus environment where every student, faculty and staff member feels seen, respected, supported and empowered to thrive,” says President Mark Ginsberg. “MԳٲ health is foundational to academic and personal success. At TU, we believe that prioritizing well-being is essential to building a strong university community. We are very proud that supporting holistic well-being is at the center of our mission."
Towson University will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the September 2025 issue.
“At TU, well-being is a culture. We’ve built a holistic approach that weaves mental health support, prevention, education and community care into every part of campus life,” says Nora Clark-Giles, assistant vice president for student health and well-being. “From peer-led initiatives to integrated health services and responsive outreach, our strength lies in collaboration and compassion. This recognition celebrates the intentional work we’ve done to ensure every member of our community has the resources and support they need to thrive.”
Insight Into Academia magazine selected Towson University because of its commitment to maintaining a healthy campus community, reinforced by TU’s adoption of the Okanagan Charter in April 2025. The services and programs offered to students promote health and well-being, support and student success in college and beyond. Students have access to social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, financial, physical, occupational and environmental resources. TU also prioritizes social well-being, where students engage in different activities and in different types of relationships.
“We know that institutions are not always recognized for their dedication to their mental health and well-being services and support for their students and employees,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. "We are proud to honor these colleges and universities as role models for other institutions of higher education.”
A call for nominations for this award was announced in March 2025.
